Montclair Hospital Medical Center Awarded Spring 2023 ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

Grade reflects top national performance on patient safety through COVID-19 pandemic

Montclair, California, May 3, 2023 – Montclair Hospital Medical Center received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction celebrates Montclair’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

Montclair Hospital Medical Center has biannually earned an ‘A’ grade in patient safety from Leapfrog three consecutive times since Spring 2020.The hospital has been nationally recognized for its clinical excellence. In addition to exceeding standards for patient safety, the hospital was recently earned national recognition for efforts to improve management of heart failure by the American Heart Association in 2021.

“We strive to create an environment conducive to compassionate care, and we take every measure to ensure that our patients receive the best possible treatment,” said Gail Aviado, CEO of Montclair Hospital Medical Center. “Thank you to our dedicated staff and physicians. This recognition is a testament to their commitment and ability to deliver personalized care with exceptional outcomes for our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Seventy-five percent of Prime Healthcare’s 45 hospitals across the country currently hold an “A” grade.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But this hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers, and clinicians who together made that possible.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
