Montclair, Calif., May 3, 2021― Montclair Hospital Medical Center a member of Prime Healthcare, received an “A” grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Montclair Hospital Medical Center’s achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.

Montclair Hospital Medical Center has biannually earned an ‘A’ grade in patient safety from Leapfrog three consecutive times since Spring 2020.

“An ‘A’ safety grade is an elite designation that your community should be proud of,” said Leah Binder, president, and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but Montclair Hospital Medical Center shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is the only hospital rating program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.

“Montclair Hospital Medical Center is committed to delivering quality patient care during COVID-19, which is evident by our third consecutive biannual ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog,” said Gail Aviado, MSN, RN, Chief Executive Officer of Montclair Hospital Medical Center. “I am proud of our team of doctors, nurses, health professionals, administrators, and support staff for their continuous efforts to keep the Montclair community healthy and safe during such unprecedented times.”

Dr. Jhujhar Singh, Montclair Hospital Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer also shares the sentiment that this achievement was earned through hard work and dedication from the entire staff. “This last year has been full of challenges, but we remained diligent in our mission to provide quality compassionate care to our patients,” said Dr. Singh. “We are honored to be recognized again from The Leapfrog Group and thank the community for trusting us to care for them.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“During a time when we recognize the heroes in our hospitals as they battle a pandemic, and now are providing a life-changing vaccine, we are honored to commend our dedicated staff and physicians for achieving this recognition,” said Sunny Bhatia, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Prime Healthcare. “Putting patients and their safety first has and always will be a top priority at Prime Healthcare, and it has never been more important than it is today.”

Montclair Hospital Medical Center was awarded an “A” for a third consecutive time when Leapfrog updated grades for spring 2021.
