New Grade for Fall 2024 is a national recognition as a Top General Hospital in addition to its commitment to patient safety

Montclair, CA, November 15, 2024 – Montclair Hospital Medical Center, a member Prime Healthcare Foundation, was named a Top General Hospital by the Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is one of the most competitive awards hospitals can receive.

In addition, Montclair Hospital earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

Montclair Hospital Medical Center is designated as a Top General Hospital for the second year in a row by The Leapfrog Group, highlighting its excellence in patient care, safety, and its dedication to serving the community with the highest quality standards.

“At Montclair Hospital Medical Center, patient safety is at the heart of everything we do. Receiving an ‘A’ Grade is a testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to delivering the highest quality care and fostering a safe environment for our patients,” says Gail Aviado, CEO of Montclair Hospital Medical Center. “This recognition reflects our commitment to excellence and the trust our community places in us every day.”

The Leapfrog Group identified the top hospitals from a pool of nearly 2,400 hospitals nationwide. Among those, Montclair Hospital received a Top General distinction. A total of 134 Top Hospitals were selected, including:

  • 8 Top Children’s
  • 36 Top General
  • 15 Top Rural
  • 75 Top Teaching

The rigorous standards defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology includes the quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance. Among the metrics considered in establishing the qualifications for the award include infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Montclair Hospital Medical Center,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Montclair Hospital Medical Center, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”

This recognition is especially significant as Montclair Hospital Medical Center is the only hospital in the Montclair, making its commitment to patient safety and quality care a critical cornerstone for the health and well-being of the entire community. Over the last year, 85 percent of Prime hospitals earned “A” ratings from The Leapfrog Group.

Additional accolades also include the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™ award. Target: Type 2 Diabetes aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to heart disease or stroke.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
